EBJ's Annual Environmental Industry Overview Issue, 2007
Published March
2008
This 32-page issue
of EBJ provides a snapshot of the $25.6-billion Environmental Consulting &
Engineering industry with the latest market data by EBJ, interviews with top C&E
executives, and other sources. Data includes market size, growth and breakdowns
derived from EBI’s annual analysis of its database of revenue generation by more
than 400 C&E firms. EBJ’s forecast, derived partly from new responses to EBJ’s
2008 Snapshot Survey, is provided for major client sectors.
Overview: Times have been good for environmental C&E firms and growth is likely
to continue into 2008. Although growth slightly slowed from 7.2% in 2006 to
6.5-7% in 2007, the years 2004-2007 are still the strongest period of growth
since the late 1980s. However, despite a fourth consecutive year of relative
prosperity, executives are somewhat more cautious about the prospects for
sustained growth in 2008, with energy development, overall economy, and real
estate markets as principal factors of concern. Certain practice areas seem to be immune, but
executives are advised to view markets cautiously when considering long-range
plans.
